About World of Wanderlust

World of Wanderlust is a luxury travel blog about the hotels, journeys and places worth crossing the world for. It began in 2012 as a travel diary. Eighty-six countries later, it has become a guide to travelling well.

Where it began

The first city I ever saw outside Australia was Hong Kong. I remember stepping out into the sights, the sounds and the smells of a place so unlike home, and realising there was a whole world beyond the one I knew. I didn’t know it then, but that trip changed everything. From that moment I was chasing the extraordinary.

The founder of World of Wanderlust

In December 2012, after a handful of trips through Asia, I started this blog to document my adventures.

On the day I graduated university I booked a one-way ticket to London and gave myself twelve months to see as much of the world as I could. I travelled through Europe and across Asia, overland through South America, and into Africa and the Middle East.

Most of those trips I took alone, and solo travel became the heart of this blog for many years. Every one of those guides still lives here under Solo Travel.

How the journey changed

Somewhere across 86 countries and six continents, I stopped counting places and started remembering moments. A hotel so beautiful it became the reason for the trip. Waking to the sound of the bush at a safari camp. A view from a balcony on the Amalfi Coast. A croissant in Paris worth the flight on its own.

I realised the trips that stayed with me were never about how far I went or how many stamps I collected. They were about the places that were done exceptionally well, and the people who cared enough to make them that way.

Those many trips to Paris led me to patisserie, and patisserie led me to open Brooki Bakehouse in 2022. You can join an online baking class at bakewithbrooki.com or bake my recipes at home with the cookbook Bake with Brooki (Penguin).

World of Wanderlust today

Today, World of Wanderlust is a luxury travel blog for people who would rather travel well than travel fast. You’ll find the world’s most beautiful luxury hotels, all-inclusive resorts, safaris, honeymoons, and the bakeries and tables worth planning a trip around. Each guide is written the way I would plan a trip for a friend.

This blog has taken me to corners of the world I never would have seen without the people who read it. Whether you’ve been here since that first post or you’ve just arrived, thank you for being here.

If you’d like to build a travel blog of your own, the Travel Blogger Master Course shares everything this one has taught me.
