I don’t know about you, but one of my favourite ways to start preparing for a trip somewhere new is by exploring it through Instagram in the weeks leading up to my departure. I love following along in a local’s footsteps to see the city though their camera lens — it just gets me so excited for my upcoming visit!

After I had made the decision to move to Berlin two years ago, in the months leading up to my departure date I trawled through Instagram to discover the city’s best Instagrammers. Each photographer I discovered seemed to capture a unique face of Berlin and made me even more impatient to discover it all for myself when I finally arrived.

If you can’t jump on a flight to Berlin today, these 10 Instagram accounts will transport you there instantaneously!

10 of Berlin’s Best Instagrammers:

Michael Schulz runs Berlin’s most popular Instagram account, with the number of followers tipping over 405k. His photographs are all about the details that make Berlin what it is: think geometric lines, shadows and historic architecture.

After falling in love with Berlin, Canadian Kayla Seah packed her bags and moved there, settling in one Europe’s most creative cities. She runs the successful fashion blog, Not Your Standard, and her Instagram gallery features beautiful shots of her out and about in Berlin as well as luscious photographs of flowers, architecture and healthy eating.

Joerg Nicht’s Instagram account really captures the atmosphere of the city. His gallery features Berliners as they go about their daily business, local transport as well as the mood of the day.

Mary Scherpe is my go-to source for trusted information on the Berlin food scene. Her blog, Stil in Berlin, is recognised as one of the top authorities on this aspect in Berlin.

I adore this unique Instagram account by graphic designer, Antje, who tells stories of Berlin through her favourite subjects: her dog, Sheila, and her favourite red umbrella.

Follow Thomas Kakareko’s account for a look at Berlin’s locals through stunning street photography, often black and white.

Street photographer, Uwa Scholz, reveals a different side of Berlin in her Instagram gallery that goes beyond the typical tourist imagery, capturing the city in all its diversity.

Instagrammer Linda Berg mainly photographs urban architecture with a focus on minimalism.

Jolanta Paliszewska shoots a huge range of subjects around Berlin and her gallery is colourful and varied.

Swedish designer, Sandra Juto, settled in Berlin a few years ago and owns her own business crafting handmade crocheted products and prints.

Instagram has by far become my favourite social network, and I can’t wait to check some of these out! I love checking out accounts before I travel- it adds a certain something to the city by seeing it through different perspectives and captured in different ways.
