“When nothing was going right, I didn’t turn left. I went online and booked a one-way ticket to London. It was the day of my university graduation and for the entire ceremony, the gruelling minutes that felt like hours of family photos, and the celebratory dinner party my mum held for me in the evening, I harboured the secret better than a Russian spy.

And then I came out with it: “Mum, Dad, I’m not going to get a job. I’m going to travel the world and take a year to myself”.

A Year to Myself follows the yearlong journey of internationally-recognised travel blogger Brooke Saward as she flew around the world: solo, single, and in something close enough to solitude.

There were no relationships. There were no one night stands, no dating, no kissing. Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Just me, myself, and my blog. The entire year was a testament to trusting myself, testing myself, and treating myself with the love I was seeking from others.

Here’s what happened when I took A Year to Myself.”

A Year to Myself

AYTM‘ is now available for $19.99.

About the Book: A Year to Myself

I’ve never been certain of much in life. Like many of us, I’ve been dipping in and out of enthusiasm, forever changing my course in life, and forced my way through life in a process of trial and error.

Then I started travelling the world.

Seeing all that I had, knowing what I had learned on the trips I had taken, I came to the conclusion that travelling was the best education I could have given myself. And so on the day I graduated university I booked a one way ticket to London to visit six continents with just my own two feet, and take a year to myself. This book is full of tales from the road.

What Readers are saying!

praise for AYTM

Why Digital & Not Print

There are exciting things happening here at WOW HQ. Exciting things I wish more than anything I could talk about, but for now, I can only hint at what the big news might be!

Before setting out to take a year to myself to travel the world and write a book about it, I was determined to get this book published or at the very least in hard copy so that readers had a physical product they could hold as their own and cling to it in times where you just need to escape into the pages. It was my primary concern in the months leading up to releasing “AYTM”, until one day recently a very exciting opportunity landed on my desk (or, okay, in my email inbox to be specific), which has altered my path for this year’s book release.

And so, alas, “AYTM” will now be released in digital form only at this stage, to make room for the very exciting news that I will be able to share with you in the coming months.

Please do tweet me, facebook me, instagram me or telepathically send brainwaves my way to let me know your thoughts on the #AYTM book… I can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

Hello Broke. I’m a portuguese blogger and I follow you since I created my last blog in August 2014. I found you in a research about tourism and travel blogs because I want to start my own so much! However, it is not the perfect time but I won’t give up! You are an example to me! I am very interested in reading your book but unfortunatly I can’t buy it now. Maybe in the end of this month I can. But I promise I will send you my feedback about it. Seems to be a great book and I guess it give the strenght and courage I need to create my tourim blog. It is a old dream that I want as travelling. Unfortunatly I don’t have company to travel and for that, I travel alone.
One kiss from a portuguese girl that loves you!

    Hi Brooke.

I received the email that your book was realized just a few short hours ago (I pre-ordered it) and I JUST finished reading it. So. in. awe. and so moved. I really enjoyed your book and now, it really feels like I “know” you. You did a beautiful job, I want to thank you for your honesty and openness.
It is really interesting to hear about the successes and struggles of those we admire – so thank you again!
I hope to meet you one day while traveling!

Thank you SO MUCH for this comment Erica – I can’t believe you read it right through!!! I’m so thankful for the opportunity I have to connect with people on a more human level and remind everyone of the ups and downs we all face — but in the end its all about pulling through on the other side all the wiser!

Thank you again – truly means the world 🙂 x

I love the idea and definitely want to read the book. Travel (especially alone) always fires up my mind, transforms me and seems to bring me back in touch with who I am.

    September 3, 2015 at 10:45 am

This is awesome! Way to follow your heart and do what no one else was doing. Your journeys inspired me to take my first solo trip to Italy & Switzerland this year. It was amazing, and I can’t wait for the next one!

Love it, and the blog! Let me know if you ever need a friend in DC.

Congrats on your book release! I just want to let you know that I follow your blog religiously and I want to thank you for your previous published books. Because of you, I took the plunge and pushed myself to finally do what i wanted to do and create my blog. Always said ‘one day i’ll do it’ and now i’m doing it. I’m in the early stages, but I’ve followed your tips and got started.
Keep inspiring and keep living your dream.
I wish you all the best.

I am sitting in my bed, in cold Cape Town, my heart filled with hope and all kinds of emotion after reading your new book. Brooke, I admire you and wish to be more like you in the way you persevered, believed in yourself and went travelling despite what society says we should do or not do, and proved that it does not matter whether you have special dietary requirements (mine is seafood allergy and no alcohol) or claustrophobia/travel sickness (mine is anxiety). I am setting off next year on a journey (digital nomad) and reading your book has encouraged me and given me renewed hope, because most of the time I feel like giving up on this crazy dream. Thank you for taking the time to record your travel stories and also being so honest in your book. I absolutely love it. If one day you come to Cape Town or Mauritius, please contact me 🙂
