The south of South Africa is home to some of the country’s most stunning scenery. Boasting magical views that would lead one to pinch themselves, this is the perfect opportunity to escape reality as well as taste some of the world’s finest wines from the region.

Getting There

Visiting the Cape Winelands is easy to do so by car or tour bus from Cape Town – with the main routes being on the N1 or N2 highway. The major vineyards are located around Paarl (N1) or Stellenbosch (N2), with the latter being our location of choice for our short one-day visit in the Winelands.

Recommendations to visit

Our first stop was to drive to Helshoogte and visit the prestigious Delaire Graff (pictured above), one of the regions most celebrated vineyards. The property is renowned for its’ stunning backdrop and high-end luxury accommodation, but it was also surprising to find the lunch menu here to be world-class.

During our visit we also made our way to the town of Stellenbosch to sample more fine wines at The Big Easy in Dorp Street.

While there are many towns to visit in the Cape Winelands, visitors are also spoilt for choice by the endless array of wineries, restaurants, and tours operating in the area. After an unforgettable long lunch at Delaire Graff and thoroughly enjoying the town of Stellenbosch, I can highly recommend a visit to each of these, as well as visiting the nearby quaint town of Frannschoek. For my short stay in the Cape Winelands I enjoyed one of the boutique luxury accommodation guest houses on offer – La Petite Dauphine (picture below).

World of Wanderlust visited South Africa as a guest of the South African Tourism Board, however my opinion is as always, my own.
