New York has many secrets, but this is arguably one of the best-kept secrets in high-end accommodations on offer in Manhattan. Situated well and truly out of the spotlight in quiet TriBeCa, The Greenwich Hotel is a favourite hideaway for travelers seeking a casual and comfortable approach to luxury, no better described than being a home away from home.
The Greenwich Hotel Review
The Greenwich Hotel (or simply ‘The Greenwich’) is one of New York’s best kept secrets. Located downtown in quiet and residential TriBeCa, this is the go-to hotel for people who don’t like hotels.
Robert De Niro is the mastermind behind this unassuming New York favourite – tucked neatly away on Greenwich Street. If you didn’t know otherwise, you would walk right by the hotel unknowingly. It is indeed so discreet that the only way you would know what lies behind the doors at 377 Greenwich Street is if you have had the pleasure of staying here or have insider knowledge to drop by and visit the courtyard. This A-list hangout is the unsung hero of boutique hotels in Manhattan, and here’s what you can expect as a guest at The Greenwich…
Guests can expect a high level of service that is neither pretentious nor over the top. It’s the kind of service you would receive as a guest in a friends’ home – attentive and friendly but most importantly, there’s no request that won’t be catered to.
The Rooms inside The Greenwich are as close as you will come to feeling like a local living in New York City. The floorboards creek, the ceilings are high, and there are all the comforts of home, including a small library of used books at the study nook. Each room is distinctly different to another and with 88 rooms and suites in total, it’s not hard to see how much attention to detail has been poured into creating a private oasis for each guest to return home to.
Room highlights include HDTV, DVD player, preloaded iPod, book selection, electronic curtains, Kearsley cotton sheets, Japanese Red Flower toiletries.
Room tip: ask for a view of the hotels’ interior courtyard for something extra special.
Inside the hotel guests can enjoy the day-spa, fitness centre, drawing room, DVD library, free WiFi throughout, valet parking, in-room check-in and a newly introduced complimentary bike rental to explore the neighbourhood.
Book This Hotel If…
If you’re looking to experience the city on a more personal level, look no further. This is the creme de la creme of small boutique luxury accommodation without the pretentiousness or stuffiness. It is casual, cool, effortless… a true home away from home in the city.
Rooms from $630 per night (incl. tax)
World of Wanderlust visited the Greenwich Hotel as a guest, however my opinion is as always, my own.
