Smartphone at the ready!
Time travel is yet to be invented but if technology speeds up any faster, we’ll be travelling by the floo network sooner than we think (yes, that’s a Harry Potter reference). But in all seriousness, there are some great apps out there to make you an ‘appy traveller (pun intended)… here are my current favourites and what I believe to be the top 10 best travel apps:
1. Google Maps
Well here’s an obvious choice. But did you know you can use Google Maps OFFLINE? Yep. Off the line (that’s a reference from The Internship).
Nothing is more frustrating than a language barrier. Okay, so it’s actually kind of funny for at least the first five minutes…. but beyond that (especially if you’re trying to flirt) and you could really use some help. That’s where iStone comes in.
iStone is a translation app that is made simple – really simple. Best for asking where a toilet is and other little phrases that will surely come in handy.
Skyscanner is THE way to compare flights in the 21st Century. If you’re looking to find the cheapest option for your journey, this is the way to do so. They also compare hotels and car rentals…. set!
An app that takes the weather seriously.
5. XE Currency
An App that makes shopping in foreign cities easier? Yes please. This app works offline and is free, making it an absolute necessity for international travellers.
6. Packing Pro
All you’ve gotta do is tell this app where you’re going, for how long, and it will do ALL the hard work for you. Forget forgetting, use this app to keep track of what goes into your suitcase at the beginning of a trip and make sure it all comes back with you after the trip.
7. Jetlag Genie
Personally I go on the ‘mind over matter’ principle and push through jetlag no matter how bad it is, but if you suffer from jetlag in the slightest, this app will change that for you.
8. PS Express
I’m always getting questions about which apps I use to edit my photos – well here it is folks! The answer to solve the world’s greatest mystery. Photoshop Express is free, easy to use, and makes the world of difference on your photos. I rarely upload a photo without a few necessary tweaks!
An app to hire a private chauffeur for the price (and often cheaper) than a taxi!?!? Yes please. Uber is the fastest growing car company in the world and operates in most major cities around the globe (over 100 to be precise).
When you request a car, a small photo appears of the driver, a star rating (given by previous passengers) and a real time car pops up on the map until he arrives to collect you.
Oh yeah, forget cash being an issue. The fare is simply charged to your credit card bill which is already on file. You now have a private driver for the same cost of a taxi (or less). No need to thank me.
BONUS: Wow fans get $20 off their first ride with the code uberworldofwanderlust. Again, no need.
Perfect for road trips – Waze will take care of you to ensure you’re not left thinking ‘I’ll wait to check the next one’ on repeat, only to find yourself broken down on the side of the road. That’s right, Waze compares fuel prices for you and gives you a heads up.
