Some hotels have such a high reputation that from the moment you check-in, you expect a flawless stay. While my weekend getaway at The Pierre wasn’t entirely flawless, the way the staff handled a few minor hiccups in my stay were above and beyond what you would ever expect for a hotel. It was indeed this commitment to ensuring guests don’t leave the hotel without being completely satisfied that made The Pierre stand out as one of my favorite luxury properties in 2014.
The Pierre A Taj Hotel Review
Most guests boast rave reviews of The Pierre, and it is this reputation that has resulted in countless awards and consistent rankings in the top 10 hotels in the United States. For those reasons I was highly anticipating my weekend stay here and arrived with a spring in my step as I made my way through the lobby to check-in. Unfortunately my room was not ready in time despite arriving just moments before check-in time, so I was offered to enjoy a hot or cold beverage in the nearby lounge – on offer which seemed too good to refuse. I waited a little over two hours for my room to be ready and asked my server a couple of times if perhaps the room was ready – but there was a miscommunication with staff and it wasn’t until I finally resorted to asking the reception staff in the lobby two hours after waiting that indeed my room was ready. The staff were incredibly apologetic for the mishap so I made my way to my room to find my luggage already waiting for me and a view that I can truly say ‘money can’t buy’.
My room overlooked Central Park and was 14 floors high. If you’re looking to have an extra special stay I would highly recommend booking the suite on this floor, as it is in fact the only hotel suite on the 14th floor. There is one other apartment on this floor but it is privately owned and rarely occupied – so this is the perfect suite to book for extra privacy.
The room itself had all of the amenities expected of a hotel of this caliber, however the sheer space of the suite was quite phenomenal, particularly by New York standards. There was a large entrance including ample wardrobe space, a large desk, and a very welcoming platter of fruits and cakes. Then there was the oversized bathroom, and of course the incredibly large bedroom with a view overlooking central park.
During my stay I also enjoyed afternoon tea in the lounge as I was informed this was one of the best afternoon teas on offer in the city. Unfortunately I was seated during peak time and there was a long wait time to receive tea and my three tiers of goodies, however the afternoon tea itself was lovely.
Breakfast each morning was indeed a highlight and the staff in the informal cafe downstairs will do their best to ensure you thoroughly enjoy your breakfast each morning. If you manage to catch a lucky break and spot the hotel car available, it will take you anywhere nearby without a fee – and it’s a jaguar – nice touch!
The service at the Pierre is renowned for being some of the best you can experience in New York City and matched with an unbeatable location just across the street from Central Park, a weekend away at The Pierre could quite possible be the best weekend you will ever have in the city.
World of Wanderlust was welcomed to The Pierre, A Taj Hotel as a guest, however my opinion is as always my own!
