The Must Have Travel App: Why Create Trips is the Next Big Thing

The more I see of the world, the more I want to see.

Rather than ticking off destinations: countries, cities, neighbourhoods within cities, I have unknowingly widened my ever-growing list of places I want to visit and revisit again. Now every time I visit a new city I like to do so with a solid grasp on what I want to see and do there. I like to peruse a range of blogs, guides and books to see what I should (and also what I shouldn’t) do whilst there. It’s a time consuming process, but I’ve reasoned that it is worth my while to ensure I arrive with a curated guide in my mind of everything I wish to see and do in a city.

Thankfully, I’ve recently found CreateTrips – the newest must have travel app that allows you to buy specialist city guides, as well as selling your own, should you wish to do so. Its basically a way of condensing all the information into one small guide that gives you only the necessary information, curated by a blogger you follow or a friend you trust (or a blogger friend you both follow and trust).

What is it?

Essentially, its a market place for you to find and create the best trip possible before your travels. Instead of sourcing all that information online only to lose it over time, you will have everything you need to know in one (incredibly good looking) ‘travel book’ you have purchased (additionally many of the travel guides are free). After you’ve downloaded the guide from the app, you can then refer to it offline – meaning gone are the days where you carry around heavy guidebooks for each city, country or region.

All the guides you purchase are there in one safe place – inside the app – and you have them with you at all times. Its genius, no!?

Why is it important?

There are many great new travel apps coming up on the market place all of the time – many of which I have shared previously to make your travels easier. So what makes this app so different, so important, and more importantly… what makes this app “the next big thing”?

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been waiting for an app like this to come along. The app is easy to use, visually pleasing, and makes it ridiculously easy to buy great, especially-written-for-me travel guides. Gone are the days where big publishing houses had the monopoly over telling travellers where to go, where to eat, sleep, and what to do there. Subsequently gone are the days where I cringe at a guidebook that tells me where to go, I go there and the “must visit” restaurant is closed down or not open on Sundays, despite the guide telling me otherwise.

Put simply, this is the answer to the digital age of travel.

Why Should I Pay for Information I can Find for Free?

Many of the guides available in the app are available free of charge, but the more ‘premium’ guides or those written by bloggers are offered at a small fee.

Now I don’t know about everyone out there reading this, but I’m sure some of you are bound to ask this question. Indeed, I ask myself the very same thing whenever I am faced with the decision of finding all the information for myself vs. paying a few dollars to have it done for me.

If you like doing your own research, spending hours of your life on blogs like this, getting lost in the material and finding oodles of great free information then sure, you might not be willing to pay a few dollars for each guide.

However by paying a small nominal fee you’re getting a much cleaner, efficient, condensed travel guide that tells you only what YOU want to know, about the city or country YOU are visiting, and its written by someone YOU trust. By paying a small fee you’re also giving value to this person’s work and sort of saying “hey, thanks for doing the hard work for me”.

Moreover the guides are still much cheaper than traditional travel guides and much easier to use – if you ask me, it’s a win win.

Going to thailand over summer and this app would be perfect! Definitely would love to not worry about organising too many things and just be able to use the app to find things in the area if we ever go off-piste. Thanks for the heads-up!

This sounds like a great app! It’s a perfect alternative if you’re short on time for research, or simply don’t feel like looking up tons of information yourself! I’d use it for sure!

Awesome app. Hope it blossoms into something amazing.
Besides what you have mentioned, I think it’s a good idea for people to monetize their travel books.

      April 16, 2015 at 12:06 pm

Forget what I have said. The app is a bit hard to navigate and add venues. Seems like only professional travel bloggers can write travel books. I guess it could be good to buy travel guides written by known travel bloggers and save the time to do research. And the app is too much for my iphone 5 to handle because of the beautiful interface and animation. Sorry for ranting 🙂

        Hey Ronny,

Sorry to hear that you found the app hard to navigate, we are working hard on making it as easy to use as possible! 🙂 I’m sure you’ll get the hang of it!

We have professional bloggers writing travel guides, but other frequent travellers are welcome to join! If you are interested, just send an email to me to discuss more:

I love this idea! Don’t get me wrong, I love my Lonely Planet guide books, but those babies can take up a lot of space and weigh a lot, especially if I’m traveling to several destinations. Thanks for the tip, I’ll be sure to look into the app 🙂
