Singapore Universal

There are a few really cool things I get to do here and there throughout the year. A few that might spring to mind are bungy jumping off the highest bungy in the world, snorkelling in the Caribbean or discovering a new underrated country that no one seems to know about. Its kind of overwhelming to look back and think of all the amazing opportunities that have come from blogging full time, but not a day goes by that I don’t remember to be thankful for it.
So my absolute favourite thing (aside from ice cream, you guys know how much I love ice cream), is to meet readers who come along on this crazy journey with me. When I was recently in Singapore and 30 readers took time off work, skipped school, or came to meet me because their girlfriend sent them to, I was completely taken back by how this little space of the internet has become a source of inspiration for so many.
When I left the reader meetup a couple of hours later, I got straight to brainstorming how I could somehow reciprocate the love and appreciation everyone at the meetup showed me. There were almost tears, loads of thankyou’s (even though I’m the one who is thanking YOU all for even reading my blog – or I wouldn’t be here doing this!?!?), and to my surprise even gifts – thank you all so much for all of the above!
As a firm believer that the best thing one person can give another is their time, I wanted to set aside another day to catch up with some readers again and thus invited three readers to join me at Universal Studios Singapore for a day of fun, laughter, tears from laughter, ice cream, rides, and unicorns.

Have you seen this Unicorn?

I guess it was one of those ‘you gotta be there’ moments.
Myself, Shao, Shaomin and Sarah met around lunch time in the lobby of my hotel, hopped in the van and asked Malvin (my driver in Singapore who likes K-pop and Chinese New Year remixes) to take us to USS. Once at the park we wasted no time and headed straight for the entrance to snap some photos. We waited at least ten minutes to get the photo just right with the rotating Universal globe – but we got there in the end!
Once inside the park we first made a quick stop at the Minion Mart – one of USS’ newest additions. And yes! It’s just as it sounds. An absolute paradise for fans of the Despicable Me films (aka my favourite animation film of all time) and filled with lots of minion goodies. I saw the “fluffy unicorn” backpack and decided I had to have it then and there. $40 well spent!
Then we hit up the rides in Jurassic Park, over to Shrek’s castle, and we even thought we’d go for a spin on the Madagascar merry-go-round. We were the only big kids over the age of four on the ride but we loved every minute of it!

After USS we went to grab some sushi for dinner and ate ourselves silly with all the miso, tofu, sushi and sashimi one could imagine!!! We also realised I hadn’t yet had an experience on the MRT (public underground transport) in Singapore, so instead of catching a taxi back into the CBD we took the metro and went for a bubble tea en route back to the hotel.
I had SUCH a fantastic day with the girls and hope this is the first of many opportunities to meet with readers all over the world! If I’m in your city please don’t hesitate to tweet me as if I can, I’d love to meetup!! 🙂

I bet you all had the best time out there. It’s always refreshing when you get to meet people who share the same enthusiasm for wander and travel as yourself. I wish I could meet you too one day…and every other like minded person.

I’m loving all these Singapore posts! A friend and I are planning on visiting over September and your posts are a big help in planning our trip! I definitely won’t skip the botanical gardens. Any advice on places to stay? I know you have a hotel, and we are definitely not wanting to stay in a hostel; would you suggest any neighborhoods/districs where we might look for an AirBnB or hotel? Somewhere central but perhaps in a not so tourist-driven area?

I really think that meeting new people is one of the great things to keep blogging. You feel so, I feel so, and many bloggers say so.
Actually, I didn’t know there was Universal Studio in Singapore – I knew that in Osaka, Japan.
It seems that everyone enjoyed it so much.
Have a nice trip… and nice ice creams!!

Hey, are you done with your Berlin stay? I mean, you packed your suitcases and are not coming back? I’d love to see you there, but if not, well in some other corner of the world I suppose 🙂
