Dear Travel,

Hi. I’ve been meaning to write to you for a while and tell you how great you are… but alas, time has a way of creeping up on me.

So it’s been 10 years since we first met and wow, what a great friendship it has been. I first met you back at the ripe ol’ age of thirteen when I somehow landed a spot as one of 20 children to travel to Hong Kong and sing at a movie premier (still don’t know how I scored that gig but glad I did all the same). Although I was wearing a horrible unfashionable bright yellow silk shirt at the time, I hope you didn’t judge me and know that I was forced by the choir lady to wear said shirt… I promise it is now as good as burned.

So we’ve been catching up every couple of years during our friendship and I’ve gotta say, absence makes the heart grow fonder. In the time we have known each other I have really enjoyed our time together, and if I’m to be quite honest I really miss you when we’re apart. Someone even gave this distant longing a name, they call it wanderlust. Turns out I use that word quite a lot nowadays.

I even started a blog that has a few readers here and there around the world

But anyway, back to my letter.

I’ve been meaning to ask you for a while now, but I’ve never really known how to go about it without sounding rude. So for lack of finding a roundabout way to word the question, I’m just gonna come straight out with it. HOW DO YOU DO IT?

It’s really quite cheeky of you. Perhaps even cunning. But admirable, to say the least.

You’ve stolen the heart of so many – festered a lust that quickly evolves to love – and you’re showing no signs of stopping any time soon. If you were relateable to anyone, travel, I would say it’s the high school heart throb. You really know how to get the girls.

So while it baffles me that you’ve managed to steal my heart as well as so many others (because no guy has actually managed that you see), I’ve kind of come to terms with sharing you. As it turns out, travel, there are lots of girls – hundreds and thousands of them – that are all feeling the way I am. You’ve taken our hearts and occupied our thoughts for quite a time now that it’s beginning to be quite the phenomenon.

Have you heard of One Direction, travel? I’d say you’re almost as big as them.

I say ‘almost’ not to insult you, travel… but there are 5 of them and only 1 of you, so I can assure you that in this case the odds are most certainly not ‘ever in your favour’. But you’re holding up quite well for a one-man-show.

Anyway travel, it’s been fun. It really has been the best 10 years getting to know you.

I can only hope that others get to know you as well as I do.

World of Wanderlust (Actually my name is Brooke, that’s just a nickname I’ve adopted in your honour)
