Escape the Crowds to Croatia’s Most Beautiful, Secret Beach: Saharun

Saharun Beach, Croatia

There’s no doubt that Croatia is one of the most popular travel destinations in summer. Because of itsย natural beauty, the country’s main drawcard, tourists flock to its seaside cities and islands in the search for the perfect beachside escape by the Adriatic sea. This can mean that the most popular beach destinations along the Dalmatian Coast are exceptionally crowded during the summer months and not so conducive to a relaxing stay. Instead, search for some peace and quiet at one of Croatia’s most beautiful, secret spots: Saharun beach.

The Search for Croatia’s Best Secret Beach…

Saharun Beach

Where is Saharun beach?

This heavenly little bay is located on the northern part of the island of Dugi Otok. The closest city on the Croatian mainland is Zadar.

How toย reach it

From Zadar, Dugi Otok is served by regular daily ferries to both Brbinj and Boลพava, two small towns on the island. It is highly recommended to organise your own transport prior to arriving on Dugi Otok. The ferry to Brbinj allows cars and scooters. Transport hire options are limited on the island, which is very big, and there is only an infrequent local bus that connects the main towns.

There are two options for lunch at Saharun beach, but the best fare can be found at Amarcord, a beach shack positioned at the far end of the beach. The fare is light, delicious and fresh and prices are very reasonable considering the view! Be sure to order a greek salad and a cold drink.

For me, this has to be one of Croatiaโ€™s best kept secret beaches, and one of the attractive beaches in the Zadar area. Sakarun beach is filled with white sand, and some of the clearest water you will ever see.

I am from Sardinia, and consider myself an expert on beautiful beaches. I have been to Croatia years ago, but the weather was so bad that we never managed to go to the beach. I think now… I have a good reason to go again and check myself it the water is as blue as it looks ๐Ÿ™‚
