There’s no doubt that Croatia is one of the most popular travel destinations in summer. Because of its natural beauty, the country’s main drawcard, tourists flock to its seaside cities and islands in the search for the perfect beachside escape by the Adriatic sea. This can mean that the most popular beach destinations along the Dalmatian Coast are exceptionally crowded during the summer months and not so conducive to a relaxing stay. Instead, search for some peace and quiet at one of Croatia’s most beautiful, secret spots: Saharun beach.
The Search for Croatia’s Best Secret Beach…
Where is Saharun beach?
This heavenly little bay is located on the northern part of the island of Dugi Otok. The closest city on the Croatian mainland is Zadar.
How to reach it
From Zadar, Dugi Otok is served by regular daily ferries to both Brbinj and Božava, two small towns on the island. It is highly recommended to organise your own transport prior to arriving on Dugi Otok. The ferry to Brbinj allows cars and scooters. Transport hire options are limited on the island, which is very big, and there is only an infrequent local bus that connects the main towns.
There are two options for lunch at Saharun beach, but the best fare can be found at Amarcord, a beach shack positioned at the far end of the beach. The fare is light, delicious and fresh and prices are very reasonable considering the view! Be sure to order a greek salad and a cold drink.
If you’re searching for even greater seclusion…
Saharun beach is quiet by Croatian standards, but if you’re searching for even more seclusion, take a walk past Amarcord and around the cove. This whole area is blessed with crystal-clear turquoise waters and you’re sure to find a secret spot that you’ll have all to yourself.
