If you’re about to jump on a long haul flight and want to actually enjoy your time on board, I’ve learned there are a few items you simply cannot travel without! Packing yourself a little SOS pack will ensure a comfy flight and hopefully pass by the time a little quicker too.
Small fragrance or roll-on deoderant
A good book or magazine to read
Travel guide for your destination
Pen (for visas and docs!)
Socks (the woolier the better)
Phone or iPad and charging cable
An eye mask is great if you’re a light sleeper but are still willing to at least try get some rest on board. If you want to take it to the next level (as I do nearly every time I fly), use the scarf to cover your head and connect the blanket over your body – resulting in a complete cocoon! I find this is the only way I can switch off and get some rest. Ear plugs are also great but if you really want to knock yourself out and get some sleep, try investing in a pair of noise cancelling headphones – guaranteed to allow you to switch off!
Cleansing wipes or makeup wipes are great to clear your skin at the beginning of the flight (the water onboard planes is really dirty, avoid using it on your face if you can!) Then, a little moisturiser goes a long way… especially if you’re on a long-haul and needing to combat constant air-con!
While in-flight entertainment is great with some airlines, with others it can be pretty dismal. To cover your bases, be sure to take your own device (phone, iPad or laptop) if you’re not planning to sleep so that you will always have something to do to pass the time. A destination guide is also great if you haven’t read up about the city or country you’re visiting yet, so that you can arrive with a plan of action to tackle your new city!
