When you hear the words “we have a nice upgrade for you” at the point of checking in to a hotel of any kind, it’s a moment of pure bliss… when it’s at one of the finest hotels in New York City, it’s more like a moment of euphoria. That is precisely what I encountered when I checked in at the Pierre, my home away from home in New York.

After enjoying this hotel so much on my first visit only a mere few weeks prior, I knew I would have to return each time I visited the city. The location alone is reason enough – located directly adjacent to Central Park and in the midst of everything you want to see and do as a visitor to the big apple.

But this wasn’t any ol’ upgrade – it was to be the best and most memorable upgrade I have received in my travel career to date – although the time I was upgraded to business class on my Virgin Atlantic flight from London to Johannesburg comes close.

When I was at the reception desk checking in, tired and weary after a long day of travel, the hotel staff impressively greeted me by name before I had the chance to give my name, making me feel like I had been welcomed home.

So I was escorted to the elevator and taken up to the 28th floors – some 6 floors higher than my last suite at the Pierre. I was expecting a similar room as my first, as that had also been an upgrade to a suite overlooking central park.

But the staff at the Pierre had something different in mind for my short one-night stay… an upgrade to one of the hotel’s grand suites, which are arguably the best suites in New York. pierre 1

I was finding it difficult to contain my excitement when the doors were opened and I stepped inside The Park Suite and I will openly admit I did a little victory dance like I had just won the grand prize in a raffle — it really was that unreal.

There was a dessert platter awaiting my arrival, welcome card and gift, fresh roses, and the most incredible suite I had ever had the pleasure of staying in, in my life.

So what exactly is on offer inside a grand suite at The Pierre?

Each suite is different, however all exude luxury in all of its grandeur – from custom furnishings through to hand-crafted finishes, rich silk and brocade fabrics, Murano glass chandeliers, and integrated technology to ensure your stay is comfortable and enjoyed with ease

To give a little insight into the incredibleness, I took a little video to share with you what its like to step inside one of the finest hotel suites in New York, look out for it as an upcoming video on the WOW Youtube Chanel!

Ah this is incredible, I don’t think I’d be able to leave after one night though. I’d just lock the doors and hide myself away.

so happy for you! Is this one of the perks of the job – they know you’ll be writing about their establishment and so they do the upgrade? That place looks fabulous! I’d be content to stay in one of their closets! LOL
