There are some holidays that leave such a lasting impression that you not only have to pinch yourself whilst there, but still long after the fact when you’re back in reality and wander if it really happened or if it was all just a dream. One such resort with that effect was my recent stay at Taj Exotica in the beautiful blue waters of the Maldives.
Checking In to Honeymoon Heaven
If you’re scouring the interwebs for a honeymoon destination and have found yourself here, let me tell you now that you’ve most definitely arrived at the right place. There are many hotels and resorts to choose from in the Maldives as this is such a hot ticket for honeymoon couples, but Taj Exotica is about as quintessentially romantic as you could ever imagine. The water villas are certainly the room type of choice, situated in a picturesque, turquoise blue lagoon that provides ample opportunity for snorkelling right outside your villa – any day, any time.
Blues… Endless Blues
One thing I noticed as soon as we arrived in the Maldives was the colour of the water. Having visited countless honeymoon destinations before (Fiji, Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand to name a few), this was by far the most crystal clear water I have ever seen in my life… and I’m sure it doesn’t get any better than this!
All around the island there are opportunities to unwind in the endless blue waters and skies, so be sure to book at least a three night stay to enjoy all the island has to offer and make time to waste time outside of all the activities on offer.
Around the World in three meals a day
The Maldives is an expensive destination; there’s no doubting it. But the money is well spent when you consider that you’re in one of the world’s most sought after destinations, eating some of the best food money can buy, and surrounded by service workers with a smile and a constant desire to make this a memorable trip.
The food at Taj Exotica was some of the best resort food I have ever tasted, with menu items such as Eggs Benedict with truffle hollandaise sauce for breakfast, extravagant burger combinations for lunch, and incredibly indulgent 6 course meals for dinner. Of course you don’t have to indulge all day every day, but with so much incredible food on the menu it is hard not to over indulge!
Before planning our Maldives trip I had one thing in mind: honeymoon heaven. Of course you don’t have to be on your honeymoon to enjoy the Maldives (as we weren’t!), but you will certainly leave feeling that way regardless of whether you’re intending to or not.
Taj Exotica went out of their way with small (and some not so small) touches to make this a memorable stay. Think rose petals on your bed, rose petal bath tubs, and an incredibly photogenic private lunch set up by the beach, complete with a butler and seven star service (that’s out of five!)
Dining at Deep End
Without a doubt the most memorable evening for us was a sunset dinner at Deep End Restaurant on the island. If the Maldives were to ever have Michelin Stars, this restaurant would proudly own at least one, if not two! The food was certainly up there with Michelin standards when comparing to other dining experiences around the world and despite the price, every penny is worth while!
I can highly recommend the tropical fruit platter of desserts and my partner almost inhaled the chocolate fondant. We both enjoyed every course so much, from the starter through to dessert and everything in between (palette cleansers included!)
