After checking in (and out) of so many gorgeous hotel rooms throughout the past few years of full time travel blogging, very few properties impress me enough to want to write an entirely dedicated blog post on them, but the few exceptions you will note here on World of Wanderlust are my handpicked selection of the world’s best hotels. The Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria in Sorrento, Italy, is a destination in itself. Unparalleled sea views, a private lift down to the ferry terminal, an entrance at the town’s main square… this is without a doubt the premier resort destination in Sorrento and here’s why you should check yourself in, pronto!

Checking in: Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria

We arrived late in the evening after a long day of train travel from Lake Como (Northern Italy), all the way down to the Amalfi Coast (Southern Italy). When the porters noticed us approaching we were promptly greeted and stripped of our baggage so that we could immediately begin to enjoy the luxurious hotel by checking in, briefly touring the property, and retiring to our room where our bags awaited us shortly after.

Around the Hotel

It is all in the name itself – this truly is a Grand Hotel. Impeccable attention to detail, marvellous architecture and lavish interior design… you really feel as if you have stepped back in time to a period that time itself has forgot and not many resorts can manage to continue to capture.

As mentioned earlier, the hotel has a number of entrance points with the main entrance just off of Piazza Tasso, Sorrento’s main square. Another entrance (or rather exit) point is the hotel’s private lift access directly to the Marina Grande, where you can catch frequent ferry services around the Amalfi Coast to popular destinations such as Capri, Naples, and Positano.

The hotel has all the usual amenities of a coastal resort – a large pool area, spa, gym and multiple restaurants. But it was the lush gardens within the property that truly made this stay feel so homely, with orange and lemon trees dotted throughout the garden and as I later found out, used in a number of in-house recipes for the restaurants.

The Room: With a View!

The sea view rooms at Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria are a highlight in themselves, though you can easily fall in to the trap of never wanting to leave your room to explore the town and surrounds!

Each sea view room offers a private balcony and terrace – the ideal place to see the sun rise and set in a gorgeous stream of colours.

Upon arrival we were greeted with a bottle of champagne, some savoury snacks and a generous portion of sweets, accompanied by a welcome letter.

The room interior is as grand as the public areas of the hotel with no detail overlooked. The towels and robes are tastefully branded with the hotel logo but it was the hotel’s own bath products that really impressed.

The hotel is situated in the heart of Sorrento, one of the biggest towns on the Amalfi Coast and full of life year-round. This is a great location to base yourself for further explorations around the coastline, to nearby towns such as Positano and Amalfi, or venturing onwards to neighbouring island such as Capri, Ischia and Procida.

World of Wanderlust stayed at the Grand Hotel Excelsior Vittoria as a guest of the hotel and Leading Hotels of the World. All opinions and oodles of photos remain my own!

I had a baller apertivo (drinks, olives, warmed nuts, and chips) at this hotel during my visit to Sorrento. Even though the hotel was way way way out of our price range, we really enjoyed a beautiful sunset and fantastic music on that balcony. Glad you got to stay at this fantastic place!
