With the recent admission that I haven’t taken a day off yet in 2014, I though it might be time to divulge a little insight into my work ethic / words I live by. The truth is that if you do what you love and love what you do, it never feels like work. But it’s important to not lose sight of your morals along the way. There’s a fine line between career success and overstepping the mark – so here’s a few helpful hints to act like a lady AND work like a boss…

  1. Do what you Love [and love what you do]
  2. Learn from other Inspirational Women [and inspire others]
  3. Build a wall and shield yourself from negativity [because a lion doesn’t lose sleep over the opinion of sheep]
  4. Be original [and bring something new to the table]
  5. Listen, Smile, & do whatever you were gonna do anyway [cos those who matter don’t mind and those who mind don’t matter]
  6. Curiosity killed the cat [no one’s business is anyone’s business]
  7. Manners Matter [get some…]
  8. Forgive & Forget [moving forward is letting go]
  9. Give before you expect to receive [karma will reward you later]
  10. Love conquers All [Amor Vincit Omnia]

Trying being less vile and stop spewing negative crap. Sounds like you’re jealous that she is doing something that she loves every day whilst you’re trapped in a 9-5 that you despise. I feel sorry for you honey

Number 4 is ironic coming from Brooke. Nothing in this post is original. These are just proverbs and idioms. As a career public servant I don’t even consider what you do ‘a job’. Unless you call regurgitating self-help cliches ‘work’ – you don’t even have anything to take a break from. Try contributing to society.

“Manners Matter” I like that. Something so simple yet so many people lack the simplest thing, manners! You compiled an excellent list.

Love this post! It’s inspiring to see other people (especially women) my age doing what they love and not necessarily what society expects of them. Great advice!

You always give such simple, yet effective, words to live by. I always grew up hearing “do what you love,” but also the phrase “work is still work,” which can be misleading. I’ve only recently made the decision to go in a completely different direction from most of my life, and I’ve never been happier.

As a serial entrepreneur, I totally agree with all of this! And I think it’s pretty obvious you go after what you want, but another quote that I love is “Never allow waiting to become a habit. Live your dreams and take risks. Life is happening now.”.
