I was twenty years old when I boarded my first plane solo. Always having had an independent streak, I was determined to make my dream to travel to every corner of the globe a reality and after saving my pennies from my part time job, I boarded a flight bound for Paris and began exploring Europe for the first time.
Having grown up on the island of Tasmania off the coast of Australia, I was besotted by the sights, sounds and of course the smells of Paris. Freshly baked croissants wafting through the air, the sun glistening through the alleyways of Le Marais, fresh blooms in the market nearby Notre Dame Cathedral and final thoughts as the sun sets over the Seine.
On that same trip I ventured toward central Europe, having boarded a plane bound for Budapest. I soon realised my love of sensory overload was not exclusive to Paris and before I knew it, I was for all interpretations of the word obsessed with discovery – of both the world and of myself.
A few years later I graduated university and on the day of my graduation I booked a one-way flight to London and embarked on a year of solo travels. Throughout that year I began blogging on a daily basis and sharing snippets of my days on Instagram to a growing audience who were as shocked as I was that I could make a career out of travelling and sharing my daily adventures.
My dream was always to travel and when I realised I could make a career out of sharing my travel stories, I knew I had found my means to an end. In 2016 I published my first book with Penguin Random House titled World of Wanderlust, a collection of my travel photography and memoirs over the years.
World of Wanderlust is a travel lover’s coffee companion on a rainy afternoon when you’re looking for inspiration to book your next trip. Filled with beautiful travel photos, insider travel tips and endless inspiration, this is the perfect travel gift book for the girl that needs to go somewhere.
Shortly thereafter I became interested in taking business ideas I had found around the world and introducing them to my home town in Tasmania, Australia. I have since opened three businesses: Charlie’s Dessert House, Little White Bridal Boutique and Nørd Brand Management.
I now travel the world for both the World of Wanderlust brand, my businesses, and the pure love of adventuring and exploring human connection with people from all walks of life and all corners of the globe.
I am often asked if I will ever settle down but to be quite frank, the term settling does not have a place in my vocabulary or understanding of life and what I’d like from mine. I hope to be inspired every day to live a life I love, not one that conforms to some preconceived notion of what our lives were mapped out to be.
If you don’t know where you’re going, any road will take you there. Thanks for sharing the journey!
