…Ahh, the irony. Yes, I have used a personal photo as an example of the annoying things people do on social media whilst on vacation. But fear not, this photo did not make it to my personal social media…..yet. There are bound to be plenty more, but here are 5 of the…

Most annoying things people do on social media when they travel

Provide the Weather Forecast

Oh it’s 40 degrees and clear skies in the tropics? Yesterday it was 39? Why don’t you tell us every day how little the weather is differentiating. This is particularly prominent for people traveling away from a colder climate, but don’t be too quick to forget you’ll soon be returning home to a balmy 9 degrees at the end of your holiday.

Upload Multiple Photos of the Same Thing

Sure, that white sand and blue sky looks unreal. But believe it or not I’m already convinced, 40 photos of the same beach aren’t going to make me think any more or less of your beachfront location. Of the 900 photos you took overseas on vacation, perhaps only around 10% should make it to social media. Please.

If You Went Out to a Nice Restaurant and Ate a Fancy Meal without Telling Social Media, It Still Happened

Ahem….. Instagrammers??? While it’s nice to see one or two photos of the nice meals you have enjoyed on your trip, you can rest assured there is no need to ‘prove’ to your friends every time you eat something that photographs even slightly more appealing than a ham and cheese sandwich.

I Hope that Food Tastes Better than it Looks

Speaking of food, despite how great it tasted there’s a strong chance your photography skills are not doing it justice and you’ve just uploaded a photo of a sloppy mess on a plate.

Selfies Here, There, Everywhere

No one is immune to the selfie. We’ve all fallen victim to the inevitable arm stretch and camera turned our way. One or two, no problem. But closeups of your nostrils are funnily enough not quite as interesting as a picture of the london skyline or the English countryside.

This is all so true! The main reason I am a photographer is mainly to avoid all of these kinds of photos… So that the skyline photos are amazing, and there is enough of my style in my photos that my face doesn’t need to be in them for someone to know it’s mine. I must say, regardless of how annoying this all is, I think it actually makes someone’s instagram more boring, not less!

Too Funny!! As a former Int’l corp travel agent (22 years), flight attendant (short term, back injury) and then International director of Sales for dental company has had me all over the world for 30 years and I’m always amused at the people who take photos of their meals before they eat them. Who really wants to see them? But the crazy ones…as a mother of a dancer…the constant photos of other dance moms who have to post photos of their dancers on beaches, in towns, near restaurants, in airplanes…in all manner of dance poses. As if we didn’t already know they were flexible after 14 years!!

Hahaha KAREN! That made me laugh out loud, you are soooo right! The dance moms are another prime example of ‘what not to do’. Still laughing at this haha!!

I am guilty of 3 of these. I don’t understand why people upload so many photos of the same scene to social media.

Speaking of selfies, how do you take such flawless self-shots. Constantly lugging around a tripod? For ex. you uploaded a pic looking out of the airplane window today. Did you ask a companion to take it?
