Hi Brooke! Love your site. I am planning to travel to South America at the end of this year, and so far haven’t quite worked out the best way (most efficient and cheap) to travel between cities? I’m planning to travel from Mexico to Bolivia over a period of about a month. Any tips? Cheers x

    This is lovely!
And Ecuador is definitely one of the most beautiful places in South America. It has fantastic nature as the country is actually the most bio diverse place per area in the whole world!

And Galapagos is just AMAZING – was there just two weeks ago for New Year’s. It’s a wildlife paradise.

    Hi Molly

I am almost finished a 5 month trip in South and Central America. There are so many places I had to leave out due to time constraints, so I guess my suggestion would be focus on just South or just Central America, unless you are going to be pretty selective on which places you will visit.

South America is so huge, and the distances so great, so factor in how long it will take you to get from place to place. I flew between major cities on my trip, as going overland wasn’t always feasible with the time I had. I didn’t get to chile at all, only went to Bienos Aires in Aegentina and would have loved more time in Eciador. There’s always next time!

All the best for your trip, you will have an amazing time!

    December 31, 2014 at 6:31 am

I have been to a few places in South America, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Brazil, and I have to agree with you (although it mentioned Iguazu as well). Chile is mentioned 4 times as is Colombia, I believe, and Brazil has so much more than any other country just because of its size alone. I love all of South America but Brazil really impressed me with the diversity it has to offer. I spent 3 weeks and skipped all around 7 different areas of the country, with my favourite spot being Salvador. Obviously South America has other amazing sights such as Machu Picchu, Easter Island, and the Galapagos, but there should be at least 4 or 5 sites from Brazil.

Great compilation! Just a quick question: I’m heading to Central and South America late next year. Do you think 3 months is an adequate amount of time to spend down there? Thanks heaps!

    October 10, 2014 at 3:59 am

Just one place form Brazil? Really? It’s the biggest country in South America and only Rio de Janeiro is mentioned? All the other places are amazing as well, for sure, but Brazil is SO MUCH MORE than Rio de Janeiro. In fact, as a Brazilian, I don’t even tell friends traveling there to go to Rio. There’s so many more amazing places in Brazil. It deserved at leadt a couple of more here.
