10 Products I Never Travel Without

Being that I travel more days out of the year that I stand still, I’ve come across plenty of products and bits and bobs on my travels, that I now have a small selection of “never travel without” items that are always by my side. These range from tech gear through to beauty lifesavers, and they’re all listed here for you to snoop about! Enjoy!

Brooke Saward | Marrakech

1. A portable charger

As a blogger I tend to use my phone a lot whilst travelling, answering emails, updating social media and just generally keeping in touch with the world + my loved ones back home. Sadly my phone battery does not agree, so I always carry this portable charger with me to make sure my phone battery lasts an entire day (especially useful when you’re lost – just duck in to a cafe and use their free wifi for directions!)

2. Noise cancelling headphones

I can’t recall if I’ve mentioned this on my blog before already, but noise cancelling headphones are for sure the best investment I have ever made toward enjoying long haul flights. Because they’re such an investment, I did a lot of research and concluded that these Bose Noise Cancelling headphones were the best in the biz, and there must be some truth to that as my boyfriend is always stealing them!

3. Face Mist

If there is one beauty item I believe flies completely under the radar, its face mist. This rose hibiscus face mist is an old time fave (and cheap option!), but I have a number of brands I use as I’m kind of (definitely) obsessed with face mists. One spray and you instantly feel alive – kind of like instant sleep – plus, they make you look fresh and smell fantastic!

4. Makeup remover wipes

How to put this in words other than: heaven sent. Make-up wipes are lifesavers on planes, when all you want to do is clean your face completely without entering the germy bathrooms to do so. Although I prefer to completely cleanse my face each night before bed (with this cleanser and muslin cloths), on planes and trains make-up wipes come in super handy.

5. Comfortable exploring shoes

Last year I had so many readers asking me what shoes I would recommend for travel, that I went ahead and wrote a whole blog post on the topic! The truth is that finding a comfortable and lasting travel shoe is so important, as you’re going to be walking all day and nothing sucks more than limping around the cobblestone streets of Europe looking for a pharmacy! I really love my nike trainers for the more adventurous pursuits but I’m also in LOVE with my new Steve Madden sandals – they’re bound to get a work out in Europe this year!

6. A sun hat

I’m sure its no secret by now that I can’t go ANYWHERE without a hat. Since starting my blog this has kind of become a signature of sorts, not for any other reason than I just like hats (okay, and it stops me from having to do anything with my hair in the morning!) My favourite hats right now are this Panama Hat and I still love my good ol’ wide brim floppy hat.

7. Sunglasses

Whether its hiding my jet-lagged, baggy eyes or lazing around on a beach in the Mediterranean, a pair of sunglasses always (always, always, always) come in handy! My go to pair are these Aviators by Ray Bans, though I have a couple of cheaper pairs for travel like these Quay Aviators.

8. A suitcase of Dresses & Playsuits

Inside my suitcase you’ll find a limitless supply of dresses and playsuits as I believe they’re a one hit wonder: its just one piece of clothing you need to wash and you have an entire outfit ready to roll out in!

9. A Scarf

There is perhaps no other single garment in my hand luggage as a scarf. They are handy to combat airplane over-air-conditioning, to cover up when entering religious sites, or to cover a stain on your t-shirt (yup, we’ve all been there!)

10. My x2 Cameras

Over the years I have been blogging I have received tonnes of questions about the camera gear I use and I promise you – my camera skills are limited, but my cameras are certainly not! For most of my blog photography I use an Olympus OM-D 5 MARK II and for my Youtube Channel vlogs, I use an Olympus PEN E-PL7.

Power loosing of mobile phone is most disgusting thing during traveling. I always carry my portable charger, my favorite headphone and my sun glass while traveling. Oh a power bank is also needed to continue power of my devices.

    Heya Brooke,
I recently found your blog and am in love!! I think I’ve been flicking through your posts in my spare time for a solid 2 days now! I’m in year 12, so next year I’m planning to have a gap year and get out of Australia and head to Europe. All you’re posts have got me super excited and I’m so happy you’ve got all amazing travel tips! However I was wondering what you think is a better idea. Would you recommend that I develop an outline for my travels and book before hand or just decided and book what I’m doing while I’m over there? I’m hoping that once I get year 12 out of the way I might try a little travel blogging myself :). Keep up the amazing work and thanks so much for the inspiration!

Thank you for sharing. Now I can have some nice suggestions for traveling 🙂

Great tips! One thing I would add to the list is anti bacterial hand gel, nothing worse than catching a bug while travelling! Comfortable shoes are definitely one of the most important things you can pack, my feet ache when I travel just from the sheer amount of walking I do, and that’s while wearing trainers!

Such useful tips! I travel a lot and so I have had to do a list too as I found I kept forgetting something each time! I think the portable phone charger is crucial, although depending on where you’re traveling to, as long as you’ve got a credit card and passport you should survive!
I’ve just done a post on how to pack with a travel survival kit , if you would like to look 🙂

I agree with the list above! I always have a pair of woolen socks with me on the plain.
First of all it is super comfortable and keeps the feets from not getting cold 🙂

Agree with face mists, face wipes, playsuits (or jumpsuits for me especially in hot climates where mosquitoes are a nightmare) and scarves! I’d also add – a full frame camera with Wi-F. The Canon 6D is perfect for this, it’s a full frame that’s somewhat lightweight AND I get to Instagram my photos right away. I’ve never needed a power bank though, maybe I’ve just been lucky! x

I have used my travel scarf – to escape from sun, to enter temples, to cover myself, as a towel, as a bed sheet when things don’t look clean enough, as a soft pillow – and from our post I learnt that it can be used to hide stains / any tears too.

    Great post.

Portable charger, sunglasses and cameras? yup yup and YUP!
But face mist is something I’ve never even considered. Will be checking out that link when it comes to my next trip/flight
    Great post – as always

My two favorites — portable phone charger and face mist. I have no idea what I did before my portable battery, one charge of juice just doesn’t cut it anymore!

Yes, yes, yes to the portable charger! I don’t know how I ever lived without one! Re: eye make up remover wipes – it’s amazing how often I forget those.

    February 16, 2016 at 8:49 am

Thanks for sharing Brooke. Great tips – my camera, noise-canceling headphones, and portable charger are all by my side during every trip (except when I’m trying to escape the technology and world for a few hours)!

    February 16, 2016 at 8:40 am

That extra phone charger, I take mine everywhere! They’re like the adult version of a security blanket LOL

So helpful! Face mist is definitely an essential for us too! Because sometimes after a plane ride, you just need to feel fresh! And I’ve learned the hard way about the portable charger, so I’m with you there too!

Sunscreen & at least 2 choices of lipstick are also on my essentials list, no matter where it is I’m going!
    Thanks for sharing! 🙂

I loved when I discovered portable chargers, they are a life changer on the road! 🙂
One thing I can’t travel without is a silk sleeping bag, they are tiny and easy to pack, but a lifesaver when you are sleeping at sketchy hostels around the world 🙂

I agree that noise cancelling headphones are a good investment. Flying can be tough. They’re about the only thing that makes it peaceful.

    February 16, 2016 at 2:11 am

Add to these one small airplane allowed tube of sunblock–whatever season.

Curious about your camera, Olympus OM-D 5 MARK II. I like a high quality but small camera. Will this camera fit into a pocket or small purse? Is it light? I went to their website and cannot find this info. Thanks so much. Great article!

I practically pack the same essentials on your list, but I also add travel sickness pills and an extra pair of contact lenses… just in case!

I love these photos of you in Marrakech, by the way!

Hands down to Emma for these gorgeous photos of you! A comfortable shoes are the must 🙂

Bathing suits for when you travel to a warmer climate. Somehow I forgot to pack mine before leaving for Sydney, Australia… Boy am I ever a bad packer.

Yes, to face spritz – ALWAYS! My regular favorite of Moroccan rose water has recently been replaced with Kiehl’s Inflight Face Spritz. So good and just the right size for the plane too.

I can’t agree more with the portable charger for your devices! Whenever we put the local country’s sim card in our phone I feel like it kills our battery life! Thanks for the great suggestions! I also love carrying a colorful sarong (I have some great ones from Bali) I can use them on the beach, a light blanket on the bus, and even as a scarf. The uses are endless! Thanks for sharing!

I always steal my dad’s noise canceling headphones! Hehehe x

This is such a good blog post! Even though I don’t travel often I love reading travel posts and I have to agree with you – playsuits and jumpsuits are a must
